My husband and I are in the process of selling our apartment and it’s absolutely exhausting.

That on top of everything else – work stuff, family time, the to-dos — can be super draining.

Am I right? Are you feeling this too?

And when we’re drained, it can be easy to slip into the doom-and-glooms.

You know what I’m talking about.  I work really hard at keeping a positive attitude but sometimes it can seem impossible.

If you agree…

Then you’ll definitely enjoy this episode of Inside Scoop.

Polly Campbell is the author of four books, a speaker and host of two podcasts – Polly Campbell Simply Said and Simply Write with Polly Campbell. I’ve been so lucky to be a guest on both.

If you don’t yet know Polly Campbell, you’ll be so happy to be introduced to her today! She’s a blast to chat with, and she’s an expert when it comes to cultivating and Maintaining a Positive Mindset.

Often people talk about self care and setting boundaries but practically speaking, what does that mean? As Polly pointed out, we often don’t have extra money to go to a weekend retreat, and don’t have the time to mediate for an hour each day.

So then how to we keep a positive mindset?

Polly shared her top tips on a recent episode of Inside Scoop.

1. Your Purpose in Life

Studies show that having a purpose helps us weather highs and lows and feel more fulfilled and satisfied in our lives. There have been lots of studies over the years – and they show that we’re happier and live longer because having a purpose can help ease stress.

A purpose takes the pressure off when hard times show up. When you know what you’re meant to do, it’s so much easier to weather a setback. The Japanese call this Ikigai and you can read all about it here.

If you don’t know what your purpose is, take a look at the patterns of what’s present (and not!) when you feel like you’re having your best day. When you’re feeling alignment with your values, connected with yourself, and like you matter, that will give you a good clue to what your purpose is.

2. Small, Meaningful Things

Sure, you need to pay your bills, that’s a given. But what little thing can you change or focus on today to live more in alignment with your values? What’s zapping your energy?

Take notice of the little things because they add up to be the sum of your life. Focus on the smallest thing you might do right now – it’ll take two seconds – that can help boost your energy. Maybe it’s eating lunch away from your desk today. Or perhaps it’s taking a stroll around the block for fresh air.

Over time this practice will snowball into more energy more often.

3. Positive Mindset for Authors

Many writers ask me how I’ve been able to publish two non-fiction books and work on fiction too. There’s a book inside of you waiting to be written. Or maybe it’s already out there. Infusing your writing with a positive mindset is as easy as the energy you bring to the page.

When Polly wrote her first book, she had nothing at stake – no expectations. The subsequent books were harder to write because of the additional expectations she and others placed on the books.

Your book is a gift to the world and once it’s out there you have no idea how it’ll do. Your work is done (I mean, yes, you need to promote it still!), your purpose has been fulfilled.

Check out Polly’s books and you can listen to the full episode with lots more detail here.
